The Boone and Crockett Club (B&C) and the International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation entered a Memorandum of Understanding in 2012 renewing their already decades old cooperation. The agreement covers the use of B&C’s copyrighted trophy scoring method and score charts for native North American big game by CIC. The CIC also elected to use this system for other big game trophies with similar trophy morphometry from Europe, Asia, and Africa.

To further strengthen the cooperation between the two organizations and to acquire detailed knowledge of the B&C Trophy Scoring methods, the CIC Wildlife Monitoring Officer, Hubert Inhaizer, who is posted at the CIC Headquarters in Budakeszi, participated and successfully completed a five-day B&C Official Measurer Training Workshop in Missoula, Montana in June 2015.

All trophies entered in the Boone and Crockett Club’s Records Program must be measured by an Official Boone and Crockett Club measurer. Measurers serve at the discretion of the Club. At this point in time, CIC’s Hubert Inhaizer is the only qualified Boone & Crockett Club Official Measurer in Europe. Hubert is also responsible for the new edition of the copyrighted CIC Handbook for the Evaluation and Measurement of Hunting Trophies and for the training of Certified CIC Measurers.

B&C maintains the records of native North American big game as a vital conservation record in assessing the success of wildlife management programs. In response to public interest generated by the B&C National Collection of Heads and Horns in the 1920s, the Boone and Crockett Club established an official measurement and scoring system for trophy big game. Hunters and the scientific community soon recognized that the system was an effective means of tracking the success of conservation policies and wildlife management methods. The first formal recognition of outstanding North American big game trophies came with the 1932 B&C records book. The 1932 book was followed by the 1939 records book that included informative chapters on a variety of subjects related to big game and hunting. In 1947, B&C held its first competition for outstanding trophies, ranking them by a series of measurements that were refined in 1950 into the current trophy scoring system. Since 1947 there have been 28 B&C Awards Programs.

Trophy entry into the B&C Awards Program now occurs during a three-year period, followed by the public display of the finest trophies entered in each category and an awards banquet. Presentation of Boone and Crockett Club big game medals and/or certificates recognizes trophy excellence. Only the top trophies in each category are invited to Final Awards Judging and only invited trophies re-measured by the B&C Judges Panel are eligible to receive awards.
