The second edition of the Wildlife Forum, was taking place today in the Egyptian city of Sharm El Sheik, in the framework of the 14th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 14).

The event was organized by the Collaborative Partnership on Sustainable Wildlife Management (CPW) and the African Union Commission and offered a dynamic space to exchanges views and ideas on key issues related to the sustainable use and management of wildlife.

Under the central theme “Sustainable Use for Conservation and Livelihoods’’, the Forum brought together stakeholders from across the globe to stimulate debate and advance policy dialogues. Representatives from governments, NGOs, and IGOs, youth, practitioners, and business met to discuss, shared experiences and seek creative solutions to issues associated with health and security of people and wildlife, wild meat crisis, and unsustainable use of wildlife. Building on these discussions, participants did attempt to define priorities on sustainable wildlife management for the Post-2020 Biodiversity Framework, including with an increased participation of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities.

The 2nd Wildlife Forum aimed to:

  • Stimulate discussions and highlight priorities to increase participation by indigenous peoples and local communities in the conservation, sustainable use, and management of wildlife.

  • Raise awareness of models and approaches for achieving sustainable use of wildlife.

  • Define priorities on sustainable wildlife management for the post-2020 period.

The videos of the sessions can be watched on the CIC Facebook Channel! More will be published in the CIC Magazine in December!
