The CIC Mourns the Loss of Mr. Luc Hoffmann, Prominent Conservationist and Long-Time Member of the CIC
21 July 2016

It is with deep sadness that we relay to you that Mr. Luc Hoffmann, of one of the biggest philanthropists of nature conservation, passed away on July 21st at the age of 93. Mr. Hoffmann, a Swiss national and CIC member since 1977, was an ardent bird conservationist. Though his successes in the fields of ornithology and conservation are not known as being “huge”, his consistent and dedicated work in conserving migratory birds is to be recognized and commended. He continuously stood up for the conservation of birds even when all the odds were stacked against him. His accomplishments did not go unrecognized, however, and IUCN has the “CEM Luc Hoffmann Award” which was named in his honor, and recognizes individuals who have made exceptional contributions to ecosystem conservation.
