In the night of December 10th to 11th, 2017, Secretary General Dr. Peter Lebersorger left us in his 55th year after a serious illness. He started his career at the Lower Austrian State Hunting Association as management assistant; in 1992, he took over as CEO, and since 2002, he served as Secretary General. Dr. Lebersorger was involved in a wide range of tasks in the Hunting Association in countless functions and later as Secretary General of the Central Office of Austrian State Hunting Associations and also representing Austria at the EU level. His support was crucial for the CIC Austrian Delegation more than two decades.

His numerous lectures, articles in professional journals, and technical contributions to books were almost natural over the years. In particular, his contacts and services at the international level were indispensable. One of the highlights was the book “Wildbret-Hygiene” (Venison Hygiene), with which, in 2008, he was one of four authors to receive the prestigious international CIC Literature Prize setting standards at the European level in game extraction.

It’s no exaggeration to call Dr. Peter Lebersorger the “figurehead of Austrian hunting”. He was the focal point for the interests of the regional hunting associations and thus forged a common path for them into the future – he established the umbrella brand “Hunting Austria”, which was recently presented to the public.

For many hunters, he was not visible – working in the background, making sure, with his wide-ranging contacts in politics and business, that the hunters’ voice was heard. He always answered all hunting-related questions with commitment, expertise, and diplomacy as an expert in the Lower Austria State Hunting Association thus solving numerous problems in the local hunting areas.

We will keep Dr. Lebersorger in our memories, not only as someone who has permanently worked hard for hunting, but also as a person with a sense of humor and approachable quality. He was someone for whom the concerns of his neighbors always had the highest priority!

Our thoughts are with his family during these difficult hours. Peter, we will miss you! – Weidmannsruh!

We’ve lost one of the best, and a good friend, not just for CIC and FACE, but for hunting in general.

Condolences to Peter’s family and friends.

  2. Des Crofton says:

Peter was a very dear friend. I am so, so sad to hear of his passing. We served together in the FACE General Assembly for almost a quarter of a century and we hunted together in Austria and attended a great many meetings and events all over Europe with Peter representing Austria in way which Austrian Hunters can be proud of. He visited me in Ireland on a number of occasions and his company and mischievous sense of humour were infectious. I will miss him dearly. He was a good friend and he will forever remain with me in fond memories. May he rest in peace.

  3. John and Liz Swift says:

So sad: too soon. Peter was a bright light, delightful friend and true professional; full of laughter, love of Nature, hunting, folk music, good food and wine; generous to a fault and deeply wise. We join our thoughts and condolences with his family, many friends and colleagues in whose lives he leaves such a big hole.
